Thursday

Felt Board

With only three days of work remaining, I've been assigned all kinds of crafty projects to do before I leave.

Yesterday, I made this felt board for the "pin the pail on the campfire" game which will be played at Smokey Bear's Birthday BASH

Tuesday

Lumberjacks

Derek (#1 sweetheart) bought us all Haywood Community College Lumberjack T-shirts and here are the results! Don't we look good?!

Monday

Bele Chere

I went to the Bele Chere festival in downtown Asheville yesterday and nearly melted, but I also saw many beautiful things, including the contemporary jewelry of Lauren Markley. Check out her etsy, and then, if you're feeling especially generous, remember that my half birthday is tomorrow!

Friday

FIXED

Yesterday was a JOYOUS day because my Toyota Camry is up and running again! The transmission cable snapped two days ago and left me stranded outside the front gates of the Cradle of Forestry. Luckily, I live with two really smart guys who were able to pop my hood and manually slip the car into drive so that I could get back to the dorm.

Since we don't have great (or any) mechanics on top of the mountain, I bribed Zach (with 3 seashells and a hug) to fix it, which he did because he's awesome. And after 2 days of hard labor, the car is changing gears like a pro!

Saturday

awesome day at work

Did an "art in nature" program for 7 United Methodist day campers yesterday and had a blast! We made nature journals (like the one above!) and used them to draw what we saw in the woods.

It was a wild, wild success!!

Thursday

oh, to be back on Tybee

My first day back to work, and already I'm thinking a vacation sounds good right about now!

Thursday

Finding an apartment has never been so easy!

Landed the COOLEST APARTMENT EVER last night. It was the first place I actually set up an appointment to look at but as soon as I walked in/met my landlord and future roommate, I knew it was perfect! The house is in a very cute, historic neighborhood--very walkable to groceries and town, etc. and the house is this beautiful 105 year old place with an edible garden, wood floors, pot lucks and free yoga! I'm in love.

Tuesday

Overheard from the Beaver Dam YMCA group

Laurie: Does everyone know where you are today?

YMCA-er: A WAX MUSEUM!!

Saturday

Critter Tricks

Check it out! The Woodsy Owl's Curiosity Club topic for next week is Animal Adaptations, so I've been doing some research and found that:

The Viceroy butterfly has evolved to look just like the poisonous Monarch to avoid being eaten by predators. Nature is so cool.

Mates

(photo reblogged from notionscapital.wordpress.com)

Beavers are one of the many animals that mate for life. And can you blame em? I don't think there's a beaver out there that wouldn't love to live their 5-10 year life span with this little guy.

Thursday

Overheard on the Trail: part 2

Girl running past me on the Forest Festival Trail holding a bug net: "I caught something!! Kidding!"
